Ethical and powerful: I was hooked for life
The first time I learned about Dr Cialdini was back in 2000. Business Consultant John McDonalds, a partner of Jay Abraham at the time, lent me educational materials on tape to train me to help grow the retailers I worked with and, through this, grow our wholesale business.
The tape series was from a USA conference called MIND CAPTURE. Many of the event speakers impressed me, but nothing had a lasting impact like Dr Cialdini’s Principles of Influence.
Using the principles, I took an underdog brand with a poor reputation in the diving industry and pulled them up to market leader within 18 months. At the same time, I started training retail and wholesale employees on how to use the principles to be more persuasive.
For the last 20+ years, I have taught business owners and their staff about the ethical use of the principles of influence. When I see them grasping its simplicity and power, I know I’ve helped their business, secured their employment and enjoyment and made the world more ethical.

Puzzled by or oblivious to the fact that a request worded one way sees a few people agree to it, yet worded another way, it is a big success.

Would you take a group of juvenile delinquents on a day trip to the Zoo?
People were asked if they would take a group of juvenile delinquents on a day trip to the Zoo. As you can imagine the vast majority of people declined that opportunity. Only 15% agreed.
When this request was superseded with an even larger genuine request (asking if people would be a volunteer at the detention centre for over a year and donating a day a week) this was met with less agreement. However, when people were then asked the same ‘day trip to the zoo’ request, now 50% of everyone they asked said YES.
