Persuasion is a much-valued soft skill that businesses have listed in the TOP 5 of in-demand skills for many years now (Linkedin – Forbes). Employees who are more effective in getting company proposals accepted by their (potential) clients or who can motivate or lead a team more effectively are clearly more valuable. The World Economic Forum also ranked Social Influence (or Ethical Persuasion) as the THIRD MOST URGENT skill to be developed in their 2025 ‘Future of Jobs‘ report.
Students applying for their dream jobs after graduation will be more or less successful in securing job interviews, and they will be more valuable in the actual job itself if they know how to communicate more persuasively. Provided they get the job, they then have to negotiate their starting wage. Being less effective will reduce employment rates which will reflect poorly on the school or university, and could cost the individual tens- if not hundreds of thousands of dollars over the length of their career.
Patrick van der Burght is passionate about empowering young generations with this ethical skill that will benefit them from the start of their careers, rather than halfway through. It also makes the (business) world a better place by creating genuine, long-term, respected relationships between parties.
